BEREA, OH. – The Calvin men's track & field team took fourth place at the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge on Saturday at the Lou Higgins Recreation Center.
The Knights had some key performances on the day.
In the weight throw senior Brendan VanHouten (Comstock Park, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) finished second-place with a throw of 56-2. Bryce Reynolds also threw 53-1 to take third-place. Sophomore Eric Van Eck (Yorba Linda, Ca./Hope PSP) had a strong showing, placing fourth with a heave of 52-1 3/4.
Junior Jonathan Walt (Hudsonville, Mich. / Unity Christian) finished third place in the Pole Vault with a vault of 12-11 1/2.
Finishing in second-place in the 5000 meter run was junior Addison Smith (Seoul, South Korea / Seoul Foreign School) with a time of 15:09.78.
Junior Tyler Johnson (Springfield, Ill. / Pleasant Plains) claimed the third-place spot in the mile run crossing the line in a time of 4:18.91.
Claiming the top spot in the 800 meters was senior James Jeninga (Brookfield, Wis. / Milwaukee Lutheran) with a time of 1:57.70. Coming in second was senior Luke Peterson (Holland, Mich. / Holland Christian) who recorded a time of 1:50.84.
The Knights return to action on Friday as they compete in the GR Sports Hall of Fame meet at Aquinas College.
