Men’s Swimming & Diving Continues NCAA Action

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After the second day of competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, the Calvin men stand in 24th place with 16 points.

"It was unfortunate to see our men's relay get disqualified tonight," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "But that is part of the competition. I feel strongly that we are making strides from last year and are giving ourselves more opportunities to score than a year ago and we still have several opportunities in the next two days. We are going to keep stepping into the ring."

The Knights swam in the 200-yard freestyle relay on Thursday. In the prelims, the team of junior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), freshman Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio Emil Friedman), junior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) and junior Jarred Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) finished in 12th place at 1:22.75. The team then finished 15th in the consolation finals at 1:23.23.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the Knights finished 14th in the Thursday prelims. The team of Ben Holstege, senior Tanner Vincent (Novi, Mich./Novi), Jared Britton and Julian Iturbe touched the wall at 3:21.50. The team was disqualified in the consolation finals.
