Calvin Men's Soccer Duo Receive CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

A pair of Calvin men's soccer players have been named to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-District Team.

Seniors Ian Adams and Jacob Lyon have both been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team in men's soccer and now advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration.

District 6 includes Division III schools from the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Adams is a computer science major with a minor in mathematics. He is a six-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. He is making his second straight appearance on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

On the pitch, Adams is in the midst of a standout senior campaign as he has seven goals, 17 assists and 31 points. A forward, Adams has been the national leader in assists for the past three weeks. He recently matched the Calvin career record in assists with 45. He was also named to the All-MIAA First Team this past week and has been named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors once.

A midfielder, Lyon is from Holt, Michigan. He is a graduate of Lansing Christian High School. In the classroom, Lyon is a biochemistry major with plans to attend medical school next fall. He is a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a six-time member of the Calvin Dean's List.

On the pitch, Lyon recently received All-MIAA First Team honors for the third consecutive year. Last winter he received Division III All-America honors from both the United Soccer Coaches and D3soccer.com.

Lyon has three goals and one assist this fall and has provided strong defensive work as a holding midfielder.

Ranked second nationally and No. 1 in the Division III Central Region, Calvin is 19-1-0 overall. The Knights will host rival Hope in the MIAA Tournament Championship final on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
