ADRIAN, Mich. - Calvin picked up an important three points in the conference standings with a 2-0 win at Adrian Saturday afternoon.
Ranked second nationally, Calvin improves to 15-1-0 overall and remains atop the MIAA standings with a 4-0-0 conference record.
With its last MIAA regular season defeat coming at Adrian back in 2016, the Knights were prepared for a tough matchup at Docking Stadium but Calvin was able to strike first as senior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) blasted in a shot from the left wing in the 22nd minute of play. The goal was the seventh of the year for Adams.
In the 31st minute, senior Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) slid a shot past Adrian goalkeeper Spencer Brown after receiving a well-timed pass from senior Jacob Lyon (Holt, Mich./Lansing Christian HS).
Calvin led 2-0 at halftime and managed the game capably in the second half. Lyon came close to giving the Knights a three-goal lead as his 25-yard blast skimmed off the Adrian crossbar in the 68th minute of play.
Brown helped keep the game close for Adrian, turning away five Calvin shots.
Calvin outshot Adrian 14-5.
Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Wunder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had three saves in posting his second straight shutout victory.
