MANCHESTER, Ind. - Calvin stretched its winning streak to nine games with a convincing 5-1 victory at Manchester University Saturday afternoon.
Ranked seventh nationally, Calvin (10-1-0) scored all five of its goals in the first half and then cruised the rest of the way. Manchester (3-6-0) scored its lone goal on a penalty kick in the closing minutes.
All five of Calvin's goals came in a 14-minute span midway through the first half. Senior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) scored in the 15th minute on a feed from senior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS). Olson struck again in the 22nd minute, banging in another pass from Adams.
In the 23rd minute, Adams cranked in a shot with sophomore Sam Twigg (Auckland, New Zealand) drawing an assist on the play.
Freshman Chris Schau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) scored a goal in the 25th minute with Adams drawing his third assist of the afternoon. The goal by Twigg was his second of the week. Adams then belted in his second goal of the game, doing so in the 29th minute of play on a feed from freshman Justin Wojcik (Canton, Mich./Plymouth HS).
Manchester's penalty kick goal came in the 84th minute.
Calvin outshot Manchesteer 14-6. Calvin freshman goalkeeper Daniel Wunder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) picked up his first collegiate start and got the win, collecting two saves.
Calvin will now break until October 5 when it hosts Adrian at 5 p.m. in front of a Calvin Homecoming crowd at Zuidema Field.
