Calvin Men's Soccer Takes Out Transylvania

ADA, Oh. - Calvin got back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over Transylvania Friday night at the Ohio Northern Invitational.

Calvin scored a pair of first half goals to take a 2-0 halftime lead. The Knights (2-1-0) owned possession throughout the first half.

Calvin scored early as sophomore Saw Twigg (Auckland, New Zealand) scored on a pretty double-feed from seniors Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS).

With 7:06 left in the first half, the Knights took a two-goal lead as senior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) took a deflected ball and slid a pass to the left of the box that sophomore Luca Seazzu (Albuquerque, N.M./Aluquerque HS) collected and then tucked inside the far post for his first collegiate goal.

Transylvania's Devin Craig broke through for an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to slice the deficit in half but the Knights countered just over a minute later when they were awarded a penalty kick.

Junior Shay Smith (Columbus, Oh./Worthington Christian HS) converted the spot kick with 15:04 left in regulation to help seal the win.

Calvin finished the match with a 19-5 shots at goal advantage. Junior goalkeeper Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephen's Episcopal School) came up with two saves in goal.

COACHES QUOTE: "It was a great team win," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "We did some really good things that we've been wanting to see for a little while now. We definitely have some things to improve upon but we happy to get the three points against a talented Transylvania squad."
