Olivet, Mich. – The Calvin men's soccer team defeated Olivet College on the road in a conference match 5-1.
The Knights came out strong as junior Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) found senior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) in the 10th minute to put Calvin on the board. This was Witte's 11th goal on the season.
With a penalty kick awarded to Calvin in the 20thminute, junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich. / Canton) took it and fired one past the keeper to put the knights up 2-0.
Calvin struck again in the 26th minute and this time it was junior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) who found senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Iowa / Hempstead) and he put one the in the net. Five minutes later, Adams found McCaw once again and he recorded his second goal of the game, 13thon the season.
The Knights on fire, wasted no time as a minute later Weldy gave it to senior Lucas Albrecht (Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth Christian) who fired one in the net to put Calvin up 4-0. This was Albrecht's six goal of the season.
With the second half underway, Olivet notched a goal in the 54th minute as David Magallon scored off of a penalty kick to put the Comets on the board.
Calvin outshot Olivet 20 to 3. Calvin goal keeper senior Luke Schepers (Holland, Mich. / Holland Christian) had one save for the Knights.
Head coach Ryan Souders stated, "Always good to get a conference win on the road. We leave with some things to work on and turn toward a talented Kalamazoo side for Saturday.
The Knights are now 13-1 on the season and 5-0 in the MIAA.
Calvin will host Kalamazoo College Saturday at 7 p.m.
