SPRINGFIELD, Oh. - Calvin claimed a 1-0 non-conference victory at Wittenberg University Tuesday night to improve to 7-0-0 on the season.

Calvin senior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) scored the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute of play, lashing in a pass from junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS). The goal was the seventh of the season for Witte and the 31st of his career. Witte moves into a tie for 11th place on the Calvin career goal scoring list with 2000 graduate Todd Folkert.

Calvin outshot Wittenberg (4-4-0) 23-4 in the match including 13-1 in the first half but struggled to find the back of the net. Wittenberg goalie Jason Bowen had nine saves. The Tigers were also helped by the woodwork as Olson sent a shot off the crossbar in the 29th minute of play.

Calvin also finished with a whopping 17-1 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fl./St. Stephen's School) posted his second consecutive shutout for the Knights.

"It's always good to a get a win on the road," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "It wasn't pretty but our guys found a way to get the victory. It's now time to get back, rest up and prepare for a very talented Chicago side."

Ranked fifth nationally, Calvin will host second-ranked Chicago Saturday at 5 p.m. at Zuidema Field. The game will feature a rematch of a 2017 NCAA III III Tournament Round of 16 contest with Chicago defeating Calvin 2-0 last November. Chicago is currently 6-0-1 on the season.
