MARIETTA, Oh. - Calvin stretched its win streak to four games with a 13-5 victory over Marietta Saturday afternoon.
The Knights (5-2) led 7-1 at halftime and scored five third quarter goals to put the game away.
Calvin was controlled possession, winning 17 out of a possible 22 face off opportunities and snaring 45 ground balls to the 23 corralled by Marietta (2-3).
Senior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) and freshman Chase Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) tallied three goals apiece with Sparling scooping up a game-high 11 ground balls. Senior Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) scored two goals and assisted on three scores.
Junior Griffin Sparlin (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Noah Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) had a strong game with two goals, an assist and a ground ball.
Sophomore Jacob Gandara (Santa Clarita, Ca./West Ranch HS) had a goal, an assist and four ground balls. Sophomore Luke VanderKooy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a goal. Senior Noah Nedd (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) came up with seven ground balls and caused one turnover.
COACHES QUOTE: "It was good to see our guys battle through some adversity," said Calvin men's lacrosse head coach Dave Hoger. "Despite some early turnovers, we were able to capitalize on our opportunities and come out with the win. This win streak has been great for our confidence and we are excited to get back to work on Monday."
