ALMA, Mich. – The Calvin men's lacrosse team came up short on Friday evening at Alma. The Scots walked away with a 6-4 victory that sent the Knights to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in MIAA play. Alma improves to 6-9 in 2018 and 3-2 in MIAA action.
Junior Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) started the scoring in the first quarter. Foster spun past the defender and fooled the Alma keeper on the left side.
Alma tied the game up in the second quarter.
The Knights responded with a goal from freshman Noah Boelens (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central). The Scots responded with a goal in the final minute of the half to even the game at two at halftime.
Senior Michael Winkler (La Quinta, Calif./Palm Desert) opened the scoring in the third quarter with a shot above the keeper.
Alma responded again with a goal to tie the game at three.
With 1:06 left in the third quarter, junior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) whipped the ball past the Alma goalie to give the Knights the lead.
The Scots scored three goals in the fourth quarter to walk away with the victory.
Senior Ethan Brown (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) led the Knights with eight ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman Mitchel Wong (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) recorded 19 saves on Friday evening.
Calvin returns to play on Tuesday at Trine.
