Calvin Men's Lacrosse Posts Win Over Wabash
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin got back on the winning track with a 10-7 victory over Wabash College Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.
Senior Michael Winkler (La Quinta, Ca./Palm Desert HS) led the way for the Knights with four goals including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter.

Calvin (3-7) closed the game on a 6-1 scoring run and outscored Wabash (2-7) by a 4-1 margin over the final 15 minutes of play.
Calvin led 3-1 after one quarter of play but trailed 4-3 at halftime. Trailing 6-4 late in the third quarter, the Knights were sparked by an electrifying goal by junior Noah Nedd (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) that ignited the 6-1 run.

Freshman Noah Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) tied the game 6-6 with a goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Boelens took a feed from sophomore Griffin Sparling (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) on the play and whipped home a shot to give the Knights added momentum.
Winkler scored two minutes into the fourth quarter and Boelens hooked up with junior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) for another goal and the Knights were up 8-6 with 11:37 remaining.
Wabash came back with an unassisted tally by Dajon Thomas to trail 8-7 with 10:51 remaining but Winkler scored unassisted with 5:20 remaining and freshman Nathan Jindra (South Bend, Ind./John Adams HS) scored the clincher with 2:14 left on a pass from Sparling.

"It was a great team win today," said Calvin men's lacrosse coach Dave Hoger. "Our seniors and captains stepped up in a huge way to lift us up and our young guys showed a lot maturity and poise today. We took care of the ball and did the little things right and that was the reason we were able to come out on top with a win."
In addition to scoring his key third quarter goal, Nedd scooped up seven ground balls. Fellow captain Ethan Brown (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth HS) also had seven ground balls and caused five turnovers.

Tri-captain Winkler had four goals, four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
As a team, Calvin caused 13 Wabash turnovers.
Freshman Joe Son (Aldie, Va./John Champe HS) had a goal and three ground balls. Bontreger finished with a goal and an assist.

Senior Derek VanderBrug (Woburn, Mass./Lexington Christian Academy) and sophomore Nick Pitre (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence HS) had three ground balls apiece. Boelens had two goals and forced a turnover. Jindra also scored for the Knights. Sparling had a team-high four assists.
Freshman goaltender Mitchell Wong (Schaumburg, Il./Schaumburg HS) had seven saves for the Knights.
