ALMA, Mich. - The Calvin men's golf team made up significant ground in the overall MIAA team standings, posting a second place team score of 305 strokes at the second MIAA Fall Jamboree on Saturday. Saturday's Jamboree was hosted by Alma at the Pine River Country Club.
The Knights finished two strokes ahead of Hope, 10 strokes ahead of Albion and 14 strokes ahead of Adrian. The team performance allowed the Knights to move up from fifth to third place in the overall fall league standings.
Calvin now sits 11 strokes ahead of fourth place Kalamazoo and 12 strokes ahead of fifth place Adrian while also creeping to within eight strokes of second place Hope.
Trine posted a first place team score of 291 and holds a 26-stroke lead over Hope for first place in the overall standings.
Sophomore Kasen Anderson (Stillwater, Mn./St. Croix Preparatory HS) took third place individually on Saturday with a round of 73. Junior Sam Holland (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) was right behind with a 74 that was good for a tie for fourth place on Saturday. Holland also moved into third place in the MIAA overall individual standings.
Junior Joshua Lansky (Park City, Ut./Park City HS) came up with a clutch round of 77. Senior Austin Umlauf (Lowell, Ind./Hanover Central HS) had an 81 while freshman Jacob Siebenga (Surrey, B.C./Dryden HS) had an 87.

COACHES COMMENT: "The guys showed focus and competitive toughness throughout today's round," said Calvin men's head golf coach Brian Bolt. "We had a good week of practice, so it's gratifying when getting better leads to performing better. We are looking forward to getting baack to work next week."
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the third MIAA Fall Jamboree on September 28 at the Lenawee Country Club in Adrian.
