NORMAL, Il. - The No. 21 Calvin men's golf team tied for sixth place at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday in a field of nationally-ranked teams, posting a team score of 299 to finish with a two-day total of 599 strokes.
Third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan took first place with a final team score of 572 strokes (284-288).
Senior Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the way for the Knights with a two-day total of 146 strokes (73-73) to finish tied for eighth place individually.
Senior Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich./Brandywine HS) had the second-best two-day total for Calvin at 151 (76-75). Sophomore Sam Holland (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) was right behind at 152 (76-76) as was freshman Mike Battiste (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) at 152 (75-77).
Freshman Andrew Lack (Northville, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) had a solid weekend, posting a weekend score of 155 (80-75).
Calvin returns to action on Monday, competing at the Steven Tyler Memorial Tournament hosted by Kalamazoo College at The Moors Golf Club.
