Calvin Men's Golf Takes Second at MIAA Fall Tournament #1

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Calvin menb's golf team opened its 2018 MIAA fall season with a second place showing at an MIAA Tournament hosted by Olivet at the Beford Valley Golf Club.

The Knights posted a team score of 292 strokes, six strokes behind first place Hope and two strokes ahead of third place Trine.

Calvin posted consistent scoring as all five members of its starting lineup shot under 77 strokes and within four strokes of each other.

Freshman Andrew Lack (Northville, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) led the way for the Knights with a round of 72 that was good for a tie for eighth place individually.

Seniors Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich./Brandywine HS) were right behind with rounds of 73 that left them tied for 10th place individually.

Sophomore Sam Holland (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) had a 74 while freshman Kasen Anderson (Stillwater, Mn./St. Croix Preparatory School) had a 76.

Freshman Mike Battiste (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) played as an individual for Calvin and had a round of 73.

"All of our players posted very good scores today," said Calvin men's golf head coach Brian Bolt. "We were generally pleased with our conference opener. Still we missed a few opportunities today that would have helped us meet our score goal, which fell short today. We have work to do to put everything together, but all in all this was a very good team effort."

Calvin returns to action this weekend as it competes at the Irish Hills Invitational scheduled to be held at the Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Michigan.
