MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 25-ranked Calvin men's golf team improved nine strokes on Tuesday at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate Invitational. The Knights finished in 14th play with a two-day total of 631 strokes. In a field littered with 11 ranked teams, the Maroon and Gold finished in 14th place. The Tigers of Wittenberg jumped two places to win with 590 strokes.
Senior Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) had a stellar round on Tuesday at 69 strokes. He finished the tournament tied for third place at 144 strokes. VanScoyk shot seven birdies on Tuesday. The round of 69 was the second lowest of the day, with Adrian Del Bosque of Carnegie Mellon shooting 68.
Freshman Sam Holland (Novi, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) improved two strokes from Monday at 76 to finish tied for 33rd place at 155 strokes.
Senior John Van Noord (Troy, Mich./Oakland Christian) shot an 83 to finish tied for 62nd overall at 163 strokes.
Junior Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich./Brandywine) also shot a round of 83 on Tuesday to finish tied for 77th place at 169.
Senior Matthew Lumbantoruan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Morning Star Academy) also improved from Monday, shooting a round of 84 to finish tied 79th place at 171 strokes.
Drew Mathers of Huntington was the medalist at 142 strokes.
The Knights return to action on next Friday for the two-day Illinois Wesleyan Invitational at Ironwood Country Club in Normal, Illinois.
