Bryan Powell is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Calvin men's basketball program. A former standout guard with the Calvin men's basketball program, Powell has previously served as the junior varsity boys coach at both Northpointe Christian High School and Grand Rapids Christian High School. As a four-year varsity player at Calvin from 2010-2013, Powell scored over 1,000 points and was named to the All-MIAA first team in 2013 and also received NABC Great Lakes All-District honors. As a senior in 2013, he helped lead Calvin to an MIAA regular season title and an MIAA Tournament crown. He then helped Calvin reach the Sweet 16 of the 2013 NCAA III Tournament, scoring 31 points in a 63-62 loss to St. Thomas in the Sweet 16 round. As a freshman, he was also part of Calvin's 2010 MIAA regular season championship squad.
Powell was graduated from Calvin with a degree in media studies. He owns and operates a media production service that specializes in sport, wedding and corporate videos. He is also employed by the Michigan Basketball Academy in Grand Rapids where he serves as the Basketball Director.
