The Calvin University Knights D3 Hockey Team defeated the Davenport University Panthers 8-6 on Saturday night.
After coming off a win on Friday over the Panthers the Knights looked to keep the momentum rolling into Saturday's game.
In the first period both teams went back and forth with good scoring chances but neither team could find the breakthrough.
The first period concluded with the game still tied 0-0.
In the second period the Knights got on the board seven minutes in with a goal from Jake Oakes with the assists from Tyler Groot and Mitchell Niesar. Three minutes later the Knights found the back of the net again this time the goal came from Brandon Turcotte with the assist from Jon Hull. Late in the period the Panthers tallied two quick goals and tied the game at 2-2.
The second period concluded with the game tied at 2-2.
In the third period the Knights broke the deadlock just 24 seconds in with a goal from Andre Kilpela with the helper from Luis Mendoza. About four minutes later the Knights got another goal coming from Oakes with the assists from Zach Malkowski and Hayden Heys. Moments later the Knights put another one in the back of the net this time coming from Mendoza with helpers from Turcotte and Heys. About three minutes later the Panthers struck back with a goal of their own to bring the game to 5-3. A minute later the Knights got the goal back with a goal from Malkowski. Once again the Panthers would not sit quietly and tallied another goal just minutes later. About a minute later the Knights got the goal back once again with a goal from Kilpela with the assist from Kenlee Dome. The Panthers then tallied two more goals late in the period to bring the Knights lead down to 7-6. But the Knights sealed the deal with an empty net goal from Heys.
The game concluded with a Knights victory over the Panthers 8-6.
Knights Goaltender Liam Austin posted 21 saves on the night.
