The Calvin University Knights D1 Hockey Team fell to the Aquinas College Saints 6-3 on Saturday night.
In the first period both teams came out determined to get the first goal of the game and take the early lead. Both teams recieved good chances early but neither team could find the back of the net. With about seven minutes to go in the period the Saints got on the board and took the 1-0 lead. Two minutes later the Saints scored another goal to extend their lead to 2-0. With about two minutes to go in the period the Knights got a goal back with a goal from Jacob Siebenga with the assists from Jared Virtanen and Josh Hartlein.
The first period concluded with the Knights trailing the Saints 2-1.
In the second period the Knights pushed hard in order to find the equalizer but could not get past the Saints defense. The Saints however, added to their lead with a goal about halfway through the period.
The second period concluded with the Knights behind 3-1.
In the third period the Saints quickly extended their lead to 4-1 just two minutes in. About a minute after the Saints goal the Knights tallied another with a goal from Riley Robertson and the assists from Siebenga and Virtanen. About two minutes later the Knights got the game within one with a goal from Virtanen with the helper from Siebenga. The Knights pushed forward trying to find a way to tie the game up at four but the Saints defense held firm. The Saints then tallied two more goals in the last four minutes of the period.
The game concluded with a Saints victory over the Knights 6-3.
Knights Goaltender Darin Fox had 34 saves on the night.
The Knights are back in action Friday the 25th as they travel to Robert Morris.
