Calvin Knights Fall to Adrian College 3-2

The Calvin Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to Adrian College 3-2 in overtime on Friday night.

In the first period the Knights came out strong looking to find the early lead, but the Bulldogs defense held firm and kept the Knights off the board. About halfway through the first the Bulldogs got on the board and took a nice 1-0 lead. A few minutes later the Bulldogs tallied another goal to take a 2-0 lead over the Knights. The Knights fought back hard late in the period but they could not find the back of the net. The first period concluded with the Knights behind 2-0. 

In the second period the Knights looked to get a spark going and get some momentum rolling. They put the pressure on the Bulldogs early and once again recieved some good chances in front of goal but could not capitalize on the opportunities. About halfway through the period, the Knights got on the board with a goal from Christian Gums with the assist from Brandon VanOphem. The Bulldogs pushed back hard after the Knights goal but the Knights defense kept the Bulldogs lead at one. The second period ended with the Knights still behind 2-1. 

In the third period the Knights and the Bulldogs went back and forth with good chances, but neither team could put one in the back of the net. With the Knights still behind one goal, they began to put more and more pressure on the Bulldogs defense but once again they could not find the back of the net. With about 10 seconds to go in the third period the Knights tied the game with a goal from Billy Oakes with the assist from Josh Hartlein. The third period concluded with the game tied 2-2 as the teams headed to overtime. 

In overtime both teams got really good chances early but once again neither team could put one past the opposing goaltender. About five minutes into the overtime the Bulldogs put one past the Knights goaltender and walked away with the victory. The game concluded with a Bulldog victory over the Knights 3-2. 

Knights Goaltender Alex Gross played an amazing game with 64 saves on the night.
