The Calvin Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to the Adrian College Bulldogs 5-1 on Saturday night.
In the first period both teams came out strong with high intensity and pressure on the opposing defense. The Knights recieved a few good chances early but could not capitalize. The Bulldogs came back strong putting a lot of pressure on the Knights defense and made it difficult for the Knights to get any momentum rolling. The Bulldogs finally struck first with a goal late in the period to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights fought back trying to tie the game up but the Bulldogs defense held firm. At the end of the first period the Knights were behind 1-0.
In the second period the Knights looked to get a couple more good looks at goal, but could not find the back of the net. About halfway through the period the Bulldogs found the back of the net again and took a 2-0 lead over the Knights. Again the Knights came back fast and strong but once again were denied by the Bulldog goaltender. At the end of the second the Bulldogs were still ahead of the Knights 2-0.
In the third period the Bulldogs tallied another goal just a few minutes in to extend their lead even further to 3-0. About a minute later the Knights got on the board with a goal from Christian Gums. The Knights seemed to get some momentum rolling until the Bulldogs tallied two more unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead. The third period concluded with the Bulldogs handing the Knights a tough defeat 5-1.
Knights Goaltender Alex Gross had a strong game with 38 saves on the night.
