The Calvin Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to the Robert Morris Eagles 5-3 on Saturday night.
In the first period the Knights came out strong and quickly got some really good chances in front of goal. Halfway through the period the Knights found the breakthrough with a goal from Brandon VanOphem with the assists from Keegan Weckesser and Samuel Dexter. About four minutes later the Knights tallied another goal this time it came at the hands of Garrett Pitter with the helpers from Nick Workman and Austin Huizenga. With about a minute to go in the period the Eagles got on the board with a goal of their own to cut the Knights lead down to one. The first period concluded with the Knights leading 2-1.
In the second period the action between both sides went back and forth, but it was the Eagles of Robert Morris who found the only goal of the period. The Knights pushed back hard but could not find the back of the net. The second period ended with the game now tied 2-2.
In the third period the Knights came out strong looking to reclaim the lead but once again could not find a way through the Eagles goaltender. About halfway through the period the Eagles took the lead 3-2. Just six minutes later the Eagles found the back of the net once again to take a two goal lead 4-2. With about four minutes to go in the period the Knights got a goal from Samuel Dexter to cut the Eagle lead down to one. The Knights fought hard but in the end the Eagles tallied one more goal to stop the Knights from the comeback. The game concluded with an Eagle victory over the Knights 5-3.
Knights Goaltender Alex Gross had another big game with 29 saves on the night.
