RESULTS
ALMA, Mich. – Calvin placed two individuals in the top six at the first MIAA Indoor Multi-Event Championships on Monday at Alma College.
Sophomore
Ella Easterling (Norton, Oh./Norton HS) placed third and freshman
Caralee Schipper (Mount Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District Collegiate Institute) sixth in the five-event pentathlon competition. Monday's competition is a part of the final MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with the bulk of the meet set for February 27 and 28 at Trine University.
The pentathlon serves as the opening event of the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Easterling posted a final score of 3,011 points with Schipper producing a final score of 2,764 points. Jaidyn Klimp of Hope took first (3,317 points) and Helena Snyder of Alma second (3,211 points). Calvin sophomore
Emma Tubergen (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) was 11
th (2,268 points) and sophomore
Bella Adams (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Lakeview HS) 14
th (1,656 points).
Easterling opened the competition with the third-best time of the day in the 60 meter hurdles (9.51). She went 4-10 ½ in the high jump and then posted a throw of 37-3 ¼ in the shot put which was the top mark of all 16 competitors. She then produced a mark of 15-9 in the long jump and a time of 2:49.34. Her point total was a career best by 71 points.
Schipper, Tubergen and Adams were all competing in their first pentathlons Monday.
Schipper had the seventh-best time in the 60 meter hurdles (9.80), the second-best mark in the high jump (5-1), the 10
th-best mark in the shot put (25-11 ½), the eighth-best mark in the long jump (15-4 ¾) and 10
th-best time in the 800 meters (2:49.83).
Tubergen was 15
th in the 60 meter hurdles (11.90), 11
th in the high jump (4-3 ½), fifth in the shot put (27-2), third in the long jump (16-5 ½) and eighth in the 800 meters (2:49.20).
Adams was ninth in the 60 meter hurdles (10.51), third in the shot put (33-4 ¾) and seventh in the long jump (15-7 ½).
The top eight finishes by Easterling and Schipper gave the Knights 9 points in the team standings heading into next weekend's MIAA Indoor Championships at Trine.
