GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin Men and Women's Cross Country will host its own Knight Invite this Saturday at the Gainey Athletic Complex. The women's 5k will start at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 10:45 a.m. A spread of 27 teams will be competing.
On the men's side last year, Calvin won with a score of 32 points. Individually, unattached runner Zach Ripley won the men's 8k with a time of 24:31.8. Coming in second place and first collegiate finisher was Calvin's Mark DeJong with a time of 25:08.7
For the women last year, Grand Valley State University won with a score of 63 points. Coming in first individually was Calvin's Katie Diekema with a time of 17:46.4.
On the men's side, there are eight national ranked teams competing. These include GVSU (DII- 2nd), SVSU (DII- 11th), Calvin (DIII- 22nd), DePauw (DIII- 26th), St. Francis (NAIA- 5th), Cornerstone (NAIA- 12th), Aquinas (NAIA- 13th), Indiana Tech (NAIA- 17th).
For the women's side there are five nationally ranked teams competing. They are GVSU (DII- 2nd), Aquinas (NAIA- 4th), Madonna (NAIA- 9th), St. Francis (NAIA- 14th) and Cornerstone (NAIA- 20th).
Returning for Calvin for her senior year is last year's female winner, Katie Diekema. The Calvin women's Knights will look to improve upon their 4thplace finish from last year. Leading the men's team is senior, Jamison Koeman. The men's team will look to regain their title.
