KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Calvin secured a three-set conference victory over Kalamazoo Wednesday night at the Anderson Athletic Center to improve to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA. Calvin won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-14.
The Knights recorded 18 blocks while holding the Hornets (3-12 overall, 0-3 MIAA) to a .028 hitting percentage.
Ranked No. 1 nationally for the fourth consecutive week, Calvin was paced by junior Sarah DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) who just missed a triple-double with 10 kills, 18 assists and nine digs to go with five blocks. Freshman Kelsey Smith (Vienna, Va./Madison HS) came up with nine kills, four digs and three service aces.
Junior Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) recorded nine kills and five digs.
Freshman Ellie Westrate (Sun Prairie, Wisc./Lakeside Lutheran HS) added nine assists.
"We played very well at times and I am happy with the outcome," said Calvin coach Amber Warners. "It was great to have the men's soccer team playing at Kalamazoo earlier today. It gave us a chance to cheer them on and they also came out and supported us in our match. It was a great Calvin atmosphere!"
The Knights return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Trine University for a 6:30 p.m. conference match.
