ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Calvin women's track and field team competed at the Al Owens Classic on the campus of Grand Valley State University Friday and Saturday.
Junior Allison Rozell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) was second in the javelin (119-1) while sophomore Annaka Ediger (Hudsonville, Mich./Hamilton HS) was eighth (103-4). In the hammer throw, freshman Tanya Visser (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) had a career-best throw of 13-4 while Ediger had a toss of 119-1. Visser also had a career-best throw of 121-7 in the discus.
Sophomore Renee Miller (Marlette, Mich./Marlette HS) was seventh in the long jump with a career-best leap of 17-9 that ranks as the top jump in MIAA women's outdoor track and field this spring.
On the track, senior Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) was fifth in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 2:14.83. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Annie Needs (Peru, Il./Saint Bede Academy) was sixth with a time of 11:44.83.
Calvin's track and field team will now split up next weekend with a group of distance runners competing at the Hillsdale Relays while the rest will compete at an invitational hosted by Davenport University.
