Calvin Women's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Campaign at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tn. - Calvin opened competition at the two-day Rhodes Invitational on Friday.

Highlighting the day for the Knights was the performance of freshman Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) who took first place in the 5,000 meters with a career-best time of 17:49.68. The time was a personal-best by nearly 28 seconds. Junior Michelle Koetje was sixth in the race with a time of 18:03.03.

In the 10,000 meter run, junior Leah Bishop (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was fourth (39:17.42), senior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) fifth (39:22.71) and junior Jenna Gaffner (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) eighth (41:53.47).

In the throws, freshman Waverly VerHill (Verona, Pa./Trinity Christian HS) had a top-eight performance, placing eighth with a throw of 107-4.
