Calvin Women's Indoor Track and Field Competes at Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's indoor track and field team competed at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday at Aquinas College. The meet also included teams from Aquinas, Cornerstone and Davenport.

Senior Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Ingelmoor HS) led the charge for the Knights, winning the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:15.53. Junior Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was third (18:49.80).

Freshman Sadie Heeringa (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a strong showing in the 800 meter run with a third place and season-best time of 2:28.37. In the 3,000 meter run, senior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) was sixth (11:11.51).

Over at the long jump pit, junior Allison Rozell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) was fourth (16-11 1/4) while sophomore Renee Miller (Marlette, Mich./Marlette HS) was sixth (16-6 1/2).

Calvin had a stellar day in the throws. Freshman Tanya Visser (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) was third in the shot put (34-9 3/4). Visser also placed sixth in the weight throw (44-1 1/4) with freshman Waverly VerHill (Verona, Pa./Trinity Christian HS) was seventh (41-1 1/2) and freshman Molly Hibler (Lake Geneva, Wisc./Badger HS) eighth (40-4 1/4).

Calvin returns to action on Friday when it competes at the Aquinas College Little Meet.
