ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Calvin women's track and field team took sixth place at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University with a team score of 26.5 points.
Junior Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Ingelmoor HS) had a big day with a season-best time of 4:34.11 in the 1500 meter run that was good for fifth place. The time ranks 11th on the current NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field performance list. Senior Hattie Greydanus (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis HS) also had a big race, clocking in with a time of 4:43.94.
Senior Jenna Dyksen (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne HS) had a season-best time of 14.74 in the 100 meter hurdle prelims and then placed sixth in the finals with a time of 14.86. Dyksen also placed 11th in the long jump (16-11). She also led off Calvin's seventh place 400 meter relay team that clocked in with a time of 50.69. She was joined on the relay by freshman Renee Miller (Marlette, Mich./Marlette HS), freshman Patience Buckley (Smithville Flats, NY/Susquehanna Valley HS) and freshman Brooke Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS).
Junior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) was eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:40.87).
In the high jump, senior Kayla Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) and junior Erin Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) both went 1.50 meters (4-11). Kayla Van Lenten tied for sixth in the pole vault with a vault of 11-0 1/4 while Brooke Van Lenten was 13th (10-2 1/2).
Freshman Annaka Ediger (Hudsonville, Mich./Hamilton HS) had a throw of 100-11 in the discus throw.
Calvin will now prepare to compete at its own Calvin Tune-Up Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
