Calvin Women's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Campaign at Gulf Shores Island Meet
GULF SHORES, AL - The Calvin women's track and field team opened its 2018 outdoor campaign, competing at the Island Meet held at Gulf Shores Sports Complex. The meet also included teams from Dillard College, Murray State, Principia and Dalton. 

Highlighting the competition was the performance of sophomore Allison Rozell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) in the javelin as she won the competition with a career-best throw of 136-8. The throw is at the top of the Division III performance list for outdoor track and field this spring. Freshman Brooke Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was second with a collegiate career-best throw of 127-8.

Senior Hattie Greydanus (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis HS) had a big afternoon, winning the 800 meters in 2:24.56 while placing third in the 1,500 meters (4:55.97). 

Sophomore Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) won the 5,000 meters (18:45.37) while freshman Madison Brink (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) won the 400 meter hurdles (1:13.83). 
 
Junior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) won the steeplechase with a time of 12:05.44).
 
The Van Lenten sisters also piled up points in several other events. 
 
Junior Erin Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was second in the 100 hurdles (15.35). Senior Kayla Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was second in the high jump (4-11). Brooke Van Lenten was second in the pole vault (10-6).
 
Calvin will return home to Grand Rapids later this weekend and will compete against Hope in a non-conference dual meet next Thursday at Zuidema Field.
