Calvin Women's Tennis Falls to Bethel University

ORLANDO, FL. –  The Calvin Women's Tennis team fell to Bethel University 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.

At No. 1 singles, Grace Riermann defeated sophomore Leah Newhof (Caledonia, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) 4-6, 6-1, 10-4. Sophomore Madeline Brouwer (Hudsonville, Mich. / Hudsonville)fell to Maggie Riermann 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Mackenzie Novak defeated freshman Maria Poortenga (Grand Rapids, MIch. / Grand Rapids Christian)7-6, 7-2, 6-0. Freshman Maya Klopfenstein (Goshen, IN. / Concord High School)fell to Jill Weinzettell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. 

At No. 5 singles Sydney Rott defeated freshman Grace Brown (Middleville, Mich. / Thornapple Kellogg) 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out singles play at No. 6, junior Brittney Statema (Holland, Mich. / Holland Christian)fell to Megan Schuler 6-1, 6-1. 

In doubles play, Bethel's team of Maggie Riermann and Grace Riermann defeated Leah Newhof and Madeline Brouwer 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. 

At No. 2 doubles, Calvin's team of Alexis Bonner and Maria Poortenga defeated Mackenzie Novak and Jill Weinzettell 8-7, 7-4. 

Rounding out doubles play at No. 3, the team of Sydney Rott and Megan Schuler defeated Brittney Statema and Grace Brown 8-4. 

The Knights return to action on Tuesday as they take on Grinnell at 8 a.m. followed by Goucher at 3 p.m.
