Women’s Tennis Concludes ITA Regional Action

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Calvin women's tennis team concluded action at the ITA Division III Central Regional on Saturday. The Knights picked up six victories on Saturday. With the no Sunday play policy at Calvin, the scheduled Sunday matches have been forfeited.

"I am very happy with how we played this weekend," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "We are continuing to learn and grow as a team and we build upon this weekend."

In the singles champions draw, freshman Leah Newhof (Caledonia, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian)posted a 2-1 record on Saturday. After being nipped by Reiner of Kenyon, Newhof defeated Aleegheny's Ress Liere, 6-4, 6-0 and Audeh of Oberlin, 7-5, 6-1.

In the doubles draw, The freshman duo of Leah Newhof and Madeline Brouwer (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) started the day with an 8-2 victory over Angell and Donovan of Millikin. The two then bounced Watts and Miller of Lake Forest 8-2. The Knights were then edged by Cepeda and Amin of Case, 8-3.

In the open singles, senior Lark Foote (Okemos, Mich./Home School) made quick work of Kathryn Wheeler of Elmhurst, 6-2, 6-1. Madeline Brouwer sank Charlotte Purnode of Denison in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.

The Knights return to action on Friday in an exhibition match at home against Lawrence Tech.
