Women’s Tennis Starts ITA Regionals on Friday

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Calvin women's tennis team opened the ITA Central Regional on Friday in Oberlin, Ohio.

The team of senior Lark Foote (Okemos, Mich./Home School) and sophomore Anna Asfour (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) opened the tournament with an 8-6 victory over Vilde Olvin and Juviel Vinluan of North Park. The Knights then fell to the No. 2 seed of Grace Deering and Ally Persky of WashU, 8-0.

The freshman duo of Leah Newhof (Caledonia, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Madeline Brouwer (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) lost to Johnston and Riddle of Kalamazoo, 8-3.

The Knights had two entrees in the open singles competition.

Lark Foote defeated Mackenzie Wills of Ohio Northern, 6-2, 6-2.

Madeline Brouwer was edged by Grace Hederick of WashU, 7-6, 7-6.

The Knights return to the courts on Saturday morning.
