Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Takes 40th at NCAA III Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team closed out competition at the NCAA III Championships with a strong set of swims in the Saturday morning prelims.

In the 100 freestyle, senior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) took 30th with a time of 51.81. Serino then joined junior Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron HS), freshman Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and sophomore Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) to place 23rd in a time of 3:30.73.

Calvin finished 40th in the final team standings with six points.

"We knew going into the meet that we were on the fringe of scoring (points) so to come away with six points and getting a couple of honorable mention All-America berths was a big bonus," said Calvin head swim coach Dan Gelderloo. "Our seniors had a great meet, particularly Ann Serino who gave it everything she had and went out on a high note. It was also great to see some of our younger team members get their first nationals experience. That will help our team moving forward."

Emory captured the overall (team) national title with 488 points with Kenyon taking second (479).
