Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Competes on Day One of NCAA III Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team opened competition at the NCAA III Championships on Wednesday.

In the 500 freestyle, senior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) took 40th in a time of 5:06.94. Junior Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron HS) was 40th in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.90.

Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Gunderson, sophomore Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS), freshman Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and senior Alyssa Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took 23rd in 1:46.64.

In the three-meter diving competition, sophomore Joselyn Smith (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) placed 21st with a score of 374.10 points.

Action continues on Thursday with prelims set for a 10 a.m.
