HOLLAND, Mich. - Calvin closed out its dual meet campaign with a 177-123 dual meet victory over rival Hope on Saturday. Calvin completed its dual meet season with an 8-4 record.
Senior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) had a banner afternoon, winning the 1,000 freestyle (10:56.26) and 500 freestyle (5:20.70) while placing second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.72). She also anchored Calvin's 200 freestyle relay to a winning time of 1:39.47. She was joined on the relay by junior Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS), junior Anna Kutschke (Manistee, Mich./Manistee HS) and senior Alyssa Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS).
Sophomore Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) also had a huge day, winning the 100 backstroke (59.30) and 100 freestyle (54.19) while placing second in the 200 IM (2:15.62). She was also part of Calvin's winning 200 medley relay team that clocked in with a time of 1:48.01. She led off the relay and was joined by Kutschke, sophomore Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and Gunderson.
Gunderson led a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle, winning the race in a time of 24.79 with Oezer second (24.95). Edewaard was a winner in the 100 fly (1:00.23) while freshman Anna Weber (North Royalton, Oh./North Royalton HS) was second (1:00.34).
Calvin sophomore Joselyn Smith (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) was a double-winner, taking first on the one-meter diving board (245.10) and three-meter board (253.35). Sophomore teammate Hannabeth Magnussen (Oakdale, Ca./Ripon Christian HS) was third on the one-meter board (236.15) and three-meter board (226.45).
Calvin will now prepare to compete at the MIAA Championships scheduled for February 20-23 at the Holland Aquatic Center.
