Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Takes Third at Calvin Winter Invite

Calvin took third at its own Calvin Winter Invite, posting a three-day total of 1,430 points. Grand Valley State took first place with a final total of 1,662 points with Northern Michigan second at 1,610.

In the 400 freestyle relay, the Calvin team of junior Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS), senior Alyssa Oezer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), freshman Valerie Edewaard (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and senior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) took third in a time of 3:32.21.

The Calvin 200 medley relay team of sophomore Hannah Chao (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS), freshman Samantha Sonday (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS), Edewaard and Gunderson took fourth in a time of 1:46.54.

In the 500 freestyle, Serino was seventh in 5:13.96 while sophomore Robyn Ellens (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) was eighth (5:23.11). Junior Abbey Wellman (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) was fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:05.90) while Chao was seventh (2:08.62).

Serino was also fifth in the 100 freestyle (53.13) while Oezer was eighth (54.53).

In the 200 IM, Chao was fourth (2:10.53).

Calvin also had a pair of top-eight finishes on the three-meter diving board. Sophomore Hannabeth Magnussen (Oakdale, Ca./Ripon Christian HS) was seventh (368.90) while sophomore Joselyn Smith (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) was eighth (362.90).
