Calvin Women's Lacrosse Edged by Georgetown College 12-10

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Calvin women's lacrosse team was edged at Georgetown College Saturday afternoon by a 12-10 score.

The Knights (1-1) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Emma Verrett (Beaver, Pa./Beaver County Christian HS) 4:08 into the game.

Junior Emma Hall (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School) later tied the game 3-3 on free position shot with 17:47 left in the first half. Georgetown (3-2) responded with four unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead before Hall closed out the half with a goal on a feed from sophomore Kelly Pepper (Wycoff, NJ/Indian Hills HS), drawing the Knights within three at 7-4.

Senior Emily Cefaratti (Hinsdale, Il./Hinsdale Central HS) went on a scoring spree in the second half, scoring four goals in a span of six minutes and 12 seconds to help Calvin tie the score 9-9. Georgetown responded with three unanswered goals to take a 12-9 lead.

A late tally by Cefaratti in the final minute of play brought the Knights within two but neither side scored again. Calvin held a 26-23 shots at goal advantage but Georgetown goalie Rachel Kidwell came up with 13 saves. Cefaratti had five goals on seven shots while Hall had three goals on four shots.

Sophomore Emma Tilma (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) also had a goal to go with the opening score by Verrett. Pepper added two assists. Junior Madeline Baas (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was credited with seven draw controls. Sophomore Ellis Chalfant (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School) was credited with four saves.

Calvin will now prepare to host Capital University this coming Saturday at 1 p.m.
