KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Calvin women's golf team put together another stellar afternoon, finishing third at an MIAA Tournament hosted by Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon at the Milham Park Golf Club.
Calvin posted a season-best team score of 342 strokes, just one stroke behind second place Hope. The Knights also move into third place in the MIAA overall team standings, standing four strokes ahead of Albion and six strokes ahead of Alma.
Calvin has now posted three consecutive third place team finishes in MIAA fall competition.
Sophomore Linnea McDonnough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater HS) led Calvin with a season-best round of 82 that was good for a tie for eighth place on Saturday. Freshman Emme Darkowski (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) tied for 15th with a round of 86. Senior Nicole VanderYacht (Kentwood, Mich./South Christian HS) and sophomore Meredith Bult (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton Academy) both had rounds of 87 with freshman Emma Dykhouse (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian HS) right behind with an 88.
Competing individually for the Knights, freshman Kaylee Hirschman (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge HS) had a round of 95.
"Today we struggled at the beginning of the round but our players hung in there and turned things around," said Calvin women's golf coach Jerry Bergsma. "Our depth was important again today as it has been all season to put up another top three team finish. We have some work to do this week in preperation for the final two rounds this fall. We're excited to get back to practice on Monday to keep making progress towards our individual and team goals."
Calvin will now prepare to compete at the 36-hole MIAA Fall Tournament scheduled for October 5 and 6 at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
