March 2, 2014 Women's Basketball Falls to Hope 88-79 in MIAA Tournament Finals By Mark DeHaan Coming off an upset of nationally ranked Olivet in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday, the Calvin women's basketball team was looking for a repeat performance against the Flying Dutch of rival Hope College in the Tournament Final on Saturday night. The Knights faced a tall-task in Hope, ranked #1 in the nation and entering with a perfect 26-0 record. Calvin trailed by 16 at half and by 20 with just over ten minutes to go, and a Knights rally in the second half drew Calvin within four at 81-77, but the Knights would come no closer as Hope closed out an 88-79 win.
February 27, 2014 Calvin Women's Basketball Upsets #18 Olivet 80-76 in MIAA Tournament By Mark DeHaan Despite twice falling to Olivet during the MIAA regular season, it was the Knights that came out on top when it mattered most, as 27 points and 14 rebounds from junior Breanna Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) paced Calvin en route to a hard-fought 80-76 victory in the MIAA Tournament semifinals Thursday night.

The Knights hosted Trine in a make-up game that was twice postponed. Calvin entered the contest with a 14-5 overall record, and a 7-3 conference record, tied for third in the MIAA. The Thunder came in at 4-14 and 1-8 in the MIAA. The Knights, despite turning around without a single practice, defeated the Thunder soundly, 78-57.
