Calvin Women's Basketball Flys Over Finlandia in Season Opener

HANCOCK, Mich. - Calvin rolled to an 82-47 victory over Finlandia in the season opoener for both teams Friday night.

Calvin led 22-12 after one quarter of play and then outscored the host Lions 23-14 in the second quarter to build a 19-point halftime lead.

Calvin shot 46.0 percent from the field and held a 42-32 rebounding advantage.

The Knights were 7-of-17 from three-point range (.412) and hit 17-of-24 (.700) from the free throw line.

Senior Becca Richards (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) and freshman Gabby Timmer (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian HS) had 13 points apiece with Timmer grabbing seven rebounds and collecting three steals. Richards was 3-of-4 from three-point range.

Freshman Stephanie Coors (Evergreen, Co./Valor Christian HS) had 12 points, three assists and three boards. Freshman Maddie Vander Zwaag (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) contributed nine points and five steals. Freshman Baylee GalanBrowne (Evergreen, Co./Evergreen HS) had eight points and freshman McKay VanSickle (Castle Rock, Co./Castle View HS) seven points).

Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it faces Concordia-Moorhead on the campus of Finlandia University. Game time is set to begin at 6 p.m.
