Calvin Women's Basketball Cruises Over Comets
OLIVET, Mich. - Calvin picked up a resounding 79-25 conference victory at Olivet Wednesday evening inside the Cutler Events Center. 
Now owners of a two-game win streak, the Knights are now 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.
Calvin solved Olivet's full-court pressure defense early on Wednesday evening and led 21-10 at the end of one quarter.  The Knights then outscored Olivet (4-4 overall, 1-3 MIAA) 28-5 in the second quarter to roar out to a 49-15 halftime lead.
The Knights did not look back from that point on in cruising to the lop-sided victory.
Senior Ali Spayde (Lewis Center, Oh./Worthington Christian HS) led a balanced Calvin scoring attack with 14 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Sophomore Kara Minderhoud (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) matched a career scoring high with 14 points as she was 6 of 9 from the field and snared five rebounds. Senior Bre Luurtsema (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and junior Becca Richards (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) added 13 points apiece. Junior Rachel Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. 

Calvin forced Olivet into 26 turnovers. The Knights outrebounded Olivet 56-42 and converted 28 of 41 (.683) at the free throw line.
With her 14 points Wednesday evening, Spayde moved past former Calvin teammate Kayla Engelhard and into 11th place on the Calvin career scoring list, boosting her career total to 1,157 points. 

By grabbing five rebounds Wednesday, Luurtsema boosted her career rebounding total to 545. She is is ninth place on the Calvin career rebounding list.

The Knights will now break until December 29 when they face No. 21 Marietta College in the first round of the Otterbein University Smoky Ballenger Classic.
