Biddlecome and Borst Receive NFCA All-Central Region Honors

2019 Division III NFCA All-Region Teams

Two members of the Calvin softball team have received Division III All-Central Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Freshman outfielder Hannah Biddlecome has been named to the NFCA All-Central Region First Team while sophomore Ellie Borst has been named to the NFCA All-Central Region Second Team.

Both players are receiving all-region accolades for the first time.

Biddlecome is from Portage. She is a graduate of Portage Northern High School. Biddlecome carried a .418 batting average this spring while scoring 32 runs and swiping 15 bases. Her batting average is the seventh-highest on the Calvin single-season list while her stolen base total matches the sixth-best in Calvin single-season history.
She was also superb in the outfield, manning either the right or left field spots. She was flawless in all 47 fielding opportunities in the field while also compiling four outfield assists.

Borst is from Hudsonville. She is a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School. This spring she fashioned a 16-5 record in the pitcher's circle while compiling a 2.13 earned run average and a pair of saves. She struck out 113 batters, averaging 6.17 strikeouts per-seven innings. She also tallied 16 complete games and was a part of two no-hitters.

Her victory total is the eighth-best in Calvin single-season history while her strikeout total ranks 10th and her season saves total ranked third.

"This is a great honor for Hannah, Ellie and our program," said Calvin head softball coach Becky Hilgert. "They both had outstanding seasons and contributed greatly to our team's success. I know they both would say they couldn't have had the seasons they did without the support and play of their teammates. There are a lot of great players in our region and it is nice for our players to be recognized amongst the top performers."

Calvin recently concluded its season with an overall record of 31-10. It marked the second straight 30-win campaign under Hilgert. Along the way the Knights captured their first MIAA Tournament title since 1997 while also advancing to the NCAA III Regional Tournament finals for the second straight year.
