For the first time in her collegiate career, Calvin sophomore Ellie Borst has been named MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week.
A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School, Borst went 2-0 in the circle last week with a 2.33 earned run average as the Knights posted a 3-1 conference record. Borst went the distance in an 8-5 win at Adrian last Wednesday and then tossed a complete-game victory on Saturday in a 2-1 win over Saint Mary's.
She then came back in game two against Saint Mary's on Saturday to toss a shutout seventh inning to close out a 7-2 victory.
Borst was part of three Calvin pitchers to appear in nthe game two win with the trio combining on a no-hitter. Saint Mary's scored two runs off of four walks and three Calvin errors but did not gain a hit against the Calvin pitching staff. It marked the second time this spring tht Borst has been part of a no-hit pitching performance as she threw a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Bluffton on April 4.
In three appearances last week, Borst struck out 10 batters while walking only two. She also allowed only 10 hits in 15 innings of work.
Borst helped Calvin improve to 20-6 overall last week and move into a tie for first place in the MIAA standings with Trine as both teams are 8-2 in league play.
