For the first time in her collegiate career, Calvin College junior Kayla Groen has been named MIAA Positionn Player of the Week in softball.
A native of Frankfort, Illinois (Lincoln Way East HS), Groen batted .600 last week as the Knights posted a 6-0 record.
Over the six games, Groen was 12 for 20 at the plate with four doubles and one triple. She also scored six runs and collected five RBI and one stolen base. In the field, she was flawless, posting three putouts in centerfield without committing an error.
On the week she had 18 total bases and posted an on-base percentage of .600.
Groen has helped Calvin improve to 17-5 overall and to 5-1 in the MIAA. The Knights are currently tied for first place in the conference standings with Trine.
