Calvin Softball Falls to Western New England

ORLANDO, Fla. - Calvin dropped an 8-6 decision to Western New England on Wednesday.

The Knights are now 6-2 on the year.

Western New England (4-4) collected eight hits and six walks off the Calvin pitching staff to come from behind for the win.

Calvin held a 3-1 lead in the third with junior Grace Quiggle (Saranac, Mich./Lowell HS) belting a two-run homer in the second. Western New England scored three runs in the third and three in the fourth to build a 7-3 lead.

The Knights rallied for two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth but came out of short late.

Junior Hannah Horvath (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman Hannah Biddlecome (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern HS) was 3-for-4. Quiggle and senior Kristen Newman (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea HS) had two hits apiece.

Sophomore Ellie Borst (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) took the pitching loss to move to 2-1 on the season.

Calvin faces Bowdoin (9:15 a.m.) and Allegheny (11:30 a.m.) on Thursday.
