Softball Suffers Losses at Saint Mary’s

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Calvin softball team fell in its MIAA road opener on Monday afternoon. After 10 days without a game, the Knights fell 0-3 and 3-8 on Monday. The Knights move to 15-4 on the year and 2-2 in the MIAA.

Saint Mary's struck first in the third inning with a run.

The Belles added two more in the fifth inning.

The Knights threatened in the sixth inning with runners on the corners, but were unable to capitalize.

Junior Anna Gernant (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) six strikeouts in game one.

The Belles jumped out to an early lead in game two scoring a run in the first and second innings and adding two more in the third.

Junior Abby Colon (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian) sent the ball over the right-field fence in the sixth inning to put Calvin on the scoreboard.

The Belles added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Calvin cut into the lead with junior Maddie DeGroot (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) scoring on a passed ball.

Freshman Grace Stock (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) knocked a double down the left-field line to score senior Jessica Brasser (Rockford, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) standing up.

Abby Colon pitched over four innings in relief in game two and recorded a strikeout.

Jessica Brasser led the Knights with three hits in game two.

The Knights look to bounce back on Tuesday against Alma.
