A native of West Des Moines, Iowa, Gernant has been named to the NFCA All-Central Region third team. Gernant was named to the NFCA All-Central Region third team in 2016 as well.

A graduate of Valley High School, Gernant recently completed a standout season on the diamond, splitting time between the pitcher's circle, outfield, infield and designated player positions.

As a pitcher this spring, Gernant broke a Calvin single-season record for strikeouts with 241 strikeouts in 145 innings of work. She is currently ranked fourth nationally in total strikeouts and third in strikeouts per seven innings (11.6).

In the circle, Gernant finished the 2017 season with a won-loss record of 15-8 and an earned run average of 1.58. She tossed five shutouts and tallied no-hitters against Edgewood College and Albion College and one-hitters against Kalamazoo College and Cornerstone University.

Her no-hit performance against Edgewood came in the Finlandia Dome Classic. She was later named the Finlandia Dome Classic Most Valuable Player and later earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week accolades In the win over Edgewood and also in a follow-up win over Lakeland College the following afternoon she amassed 18 strikeouts, setting a new Calvin single-game strikeout record.

During the final week of the NCAA III regular season, she was named the NFCA Division III National Pitcher of the Week. She was recently named to the All-MIAA first team.

At the plate, Gernant batted .306 with 19 RBI and 14 runs scored. She had 10 doubles and two home runs.

"There is a wealth of very talented players in our region and it is a nice honor for Anna to be recognized as an all-region player for a second straight year," said Calvin softball coach Becky Hilgert. "She worked hard this year with her efficiency in the circle and embraced taking on a larger role offensively for our team. She broke school records this season and I know she will be even stronger for our team next season."

Calvin finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 20-20, marking the third time in four years that the Knights have hit the 20-win plateau.
