Calvin College Mourns the Loss of Former Coach and Professor Karla Wolters

Calvin College mourns the loss of former professor and coach Karla Wolters who passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016. She was 65.

A 1973 graduate of Hope College, Wolters spent the final 23 years of her collegiate career teaching and coaching at Hope.

Prior to coaching at Hope however, Wolters spent more than a decade teaching and coaching at Calvin College, serving as a head coach in women's basketball, women's volleyball and women's softball. She twice led the Calvin volleyball team to the national semifinals and in 1986, all the way to the national championship final. She also served as a professor in the Calvin Physical Education Department.

She led Calvin softball teams to the NCAA III Tournament four times including the NCAA III World Series in 1987.

After the 1986-87 academic year, Wolters returned to her alma mater to teach and coach where she led Hope teams to numerous achievements and accolades.

In 2009 as part of a reunion with the 1986 Calvin women's volleyball team that earned national runners-up status, Wolters was given "Honorary Calvin Knight" honors.
