Brendan VanHouten Takes 13th in Hammer Throw at NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships

GENEVA, Oh. - Calvin College senior Brendan VanHouten concluded his collegiate career with a 13th place finish in the hammer throw Saturday afternoon at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

VanHouten (Comstock Park, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian High School) posted a throw of 179-8 in the hammer. On Thursday, he placed 11th in the discus throw.

VanHouten was making his first appearance at the NCAA III Track and Field Championships this week.

"We are really proud of Brendan," said Calvin head track and field coach Bret Otte. "He gave it everything he had this week. He has been a tremendous leader for our program and it was great to see him finish his career with a trip to the national meet."

The NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held at the Spire Institute. Wisconsin-Eau Claire took the men's team title with a final team score of 68 points.
