Calvin Men's Track and Field Athletes Compete at Gregory Invitational

A group of Calvin athletes competed at last chance meets on Wednesday and Thursday. At the North Central Gregory Invitational, Calvin sent a cade of distance runners to compete.

In the 800 meter run, senior James Jeninga (Brookfield Wisc./Milwaukee Lutheran HS) had a career-best time of 1:52.29 in the 800 meters. The time places him 24th on the national qualifying list.

Senior Luke Peterson (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) clocked a time of 1:57.76 with senior Josh Van Dyk (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) crossing the line in 2:01.13 and senior Jacob Buday (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett Catholic Central HS) coming in at 2:02.90.

In the 1500 meter run, junior Tyler Johnson (Springfield, Il./Pleasant Plains HS) produced a season-best time of 4:01.36. Sophomore Noah Cummisford (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead HS) recorded a time of 4:14.88 while freshman Simon Detmer (Chicago, Il./Timothy Christian HS) came in with a personal best time of 4:46.91.

In the 5,000 meter run, sophomore Justin Varineau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) produced a time of 15:10.09. Sophomore Micah Meindertsma (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) came in at 15:40.34. Senior Jamison Koeman (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) recorded a time of 15:46.32.

In the 10,000 meter run, senior Jonathan Randall (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) clocked a time of 32:56.72.

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior Caleb Ferguson (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) took first with a time of 9:10.43.

At the Augustana Twilight Invitational on Thursday, Calvin had a trio of throwers competing. In the discus, senior Brendan VanHouten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took fifth with a throw of 162-8. Sophomore Bryce Reynolds (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian HS) was 20th with a personal-best of 137-9. In the javelin, junior Jordan Jorritsma (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) took seventh with a throw of 139-4.
